Goodbye Adobe Flash
It has served me well enough in the last few years but I'm working on pulling all flash (with the exception of album streaming) off of my site. This is not so much a political move, thought there is some discouragement with Adobe, this is just a jump to what I foresee as the future of the internet.
The more and more devices on multiple platforms and architectures that have become increasingly popular, the more and more Adobe can't keep up developing plugins. The iPhone is the biggest example of this. The 64bit x86 chipset is another.
HTML5 is a step towards a solution. Most Browsers who are adopting the HTML5 standard will include the new video and audio tags. Starting with version 3.5 of Firefox will have native decoders for Theora video and Vorbis audio codecs.
So that's it. Flash is a dying format and I won't need it for long.

My Cult Envy

I have a serious cult envy. This of course is referring to the largest cult on the entire technological landscape. Apple cults.
How I envy they're pretty girls with tattoos. We seem to fall short with dudes so ugly I might as well be look in the mirror. I envy the Apple Blogs and rumor sites that 'leak' sensitive 'information' about the newest products and updates. Again, all we have is SVN, Alpha builds, and screen shot tours.
The big question is what can we do to have that healthy-unhealthy following? I've kicked around some ideas my self. I even thought about buying Linus or Shuttleworth a black turtleneck. I would send one to Stallman, but I don't feel like knitting one by hand.
Even YouTube, (my beloved YouTube!) is lacking in quality resemblance of Linux love. I can find hours upon hours of Apple tips, trick, and solutions that vary from quick and easy to incredibly complex. Damn near all you get on YouTube when you search Linux is a bunch of Compiz Cube videos. Man, the cube is cool though ain't it?
What can we do to improve the cult situation in Linux? More importantly where is the sexy tattooed Linux fangirls?

2.6.30 Kernel News

H-Online has the skinny on the newest build of the mighty Linux kernel. From the article:
"The next major Linux version will include new Wi-Fi drivers for chips from Atheros, Intel, Intersil/Prism and Marvell and new drivers for Intel LAN chips."
It's been quite a while since anyone has had much complaints about Linux wifi support. I know that I bought several no-name wifi cards from various sources and so far all of them have worked.
That's a lot better than what it was a few years back. Also, stay tuned as we prepare for the launch of Ubuntu 9.04.

2009 redesign
To be totally honest I redesigned the site on a whim. I decided that a black themed site does not quite reflect how I feel about the world as much. It's April and everyone I know is loosing their jobs. I wanted to bring things down to a more handmade level of design. I want my site to reflect the much needed minimalist lifestyle that I strive for and have lost sight of in the last few months.
I've made the site white, like paper. When ever I need to work something out, I grab a pencil and a sheet of paper. I work it out and if I get too confused I flip it over to the fresh side and go on. I've deleted over a gigabyte of data from outdated and unfinished projects on this server. I'm starting out fresh.
What other things do you think we can start fresh with?

Seriously, What the FUCK?!
My computer died recently, so I've been using my Mothers PC. She has XP installed and I saw this in her applications folder:

WHY?!

WHY?!
